Tintamarre, La piste Acadie en Amerique

On The Trail Of Acadians In North America

Andre Gladu, Director

2004 79 min. Color

Tintamarre means a great racket, the kind the Acadians raise to remind the world of their existence on their national holiday, August 15th. Two hundred years after the Deportation, Acadian culture is still very much alive. But why do Acadians - whose ancestors founded the first colony in North America - have to keep making a racket to tell the world they are still here? Filmmaker Andre Gladu sets out to discover the special character of this enduring people and, in so doing, presents his view of our continent's dynamic, shifting cultures, exploring the sources of history that nourish the Acadians, the Maroons of Louisiana and the Metis, and investigates how these French-speaking cultures are enjoying a resurgence in North America today. In French with English subtitles.
