Alphonse "Bois Sec" Ardoin Tribute

Alphone "Bois Sec" Ardoin, the legendary Creole musician who was among the first generation to record the music and define the tradition, died on May 16, 2007, at the age of 91. Together with Canray Fontenot, his music partner for more than 50 years, he took the music of the rural Creole people of Southwest Louisiana and brought it to a worldwide audience. In connection with the screening of Jean-Pierre Bruneau's "Dedans le Sud de la Louisiane," in which Mr. Ardoin was a featured musician, there will be a panel dicussion and tribute to him. Among those participating in the discussion and sharing stories will be folklorist Barry Ancelet and musicians Christine Balfa and Dirk Powell, both of whom played with Mr. Ardoin.
