Director Biography - Gabriel J. Lemay

Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Gabriel J. Lemay, the elder of three, had a fertile imagination and constantly reinvented the world surrounding him. This is what mainly characterized his youth. For him, films unavoidably became a passion. He eventually found an opportunity to begin university studies in film production at the Concordia University Mel Oppenheim School of Cinema which he finished in the spring of 2016. Three Days Till Marrakesh, completed in December 2018, and which screened at COTB, is his professional directorial debut. The short film Rosa is his second fiction piece.

Director Statement - Jean-Michel Gervais

The idea behind Rosa has been with me for a long time. The story that we brought to the screen is based on my own experience. I had a painful memory which I wanted to revisit through the story of the Patient, who succeeds in overcoming his vulnerability by escaping the ones he perceives as his oppressors. I would also like to underline a major influence, in absence of which this project would have never seen the light of day, namely my collaborator and friend, Gabriel J. Lemay. His experience shooting, as well as the safety of his judgement gave me the courage to go forward with this entreprise.
