Director Biography

Steve Sxwithul’txw is a proud member of the Penelakut Tribe located just off Vancouver Island Canada, but was raised in the Cowichan Valley. Steve is passionate about storytelling and highlighting Indigenous peoples in his craft. He is best known for his work in directing & producing his own series from Kwassen Productions “Tribal Police Files” seen on APTN and currently moving into its 3rd season. In 2018, he directed his first short film called “Leave it on the Water” which debuted across North America on the film festival circuit. In 2014, the Leo Award-winning documentary series “Warrior Games” debuted on APTN. This series highlighted Indigenous sports and ways to raise awareness, with Steve hosting and being instructed by youth with the guidance of elders.

Steve led the development of the “Indigenous Walk of Fame” which will honour excellence in the genres of TV, Film, Arts, Music and Sports and will be located in the City of Victoria in 2020-21. His first passion is his family, which includes his 3 children Jacob, Haley and Chelsea.
