Contemplating the sea brings back a memory of a conversation with a friend in the mountains, at dawn. Images and events come back to me, delayed and trapped behind the screen of a news broadcast.

Director Biography

Beirut-born artist Nayla Dabaji currently lives and works in Montreal. She studied fine arts in Lebanon and media arts in Quebec. Her projects combine a variety of practices ranging from photography, installation and video art to art intervention and writing. Her video work has been presented at l’Imagier Art Center (Gatineau, 2019), Dazibao (Montreal, 2017) and at several festivals, including Les Instants Vidéo (Marseille, France, 2019, 2015, 2014), Les Percéides (Percé, 2018), Les Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma (Montreal, 2017) and Stuttgarter Filmwinter (Stuttgart, Germany, 2015). In addition to her solo practice, she works in collaboration with Ziad Bitar. Their visual art creations have been shown at various art spaces, such as Espace Libre (Biel, Switzerland, 2016), Vu Photo (Quebec City, 2013), Gertrude Contemporary (Melbourne, 2012), Artsonje Center (Seoul, 2011) and Townhouse Gallery (Cairo, 2009).
