SHORT NARRATIVE

Benoit and Catherine, a couple in their late twenties, go to his parents’ house for dinner. It is with surprise and apprehension that they learn that their whole family has been invited for supper and that the evening may not go as planned.

French with English subtitles.

Director's Statement:

Babatoura is a dramedy about the complexity of family and romantic relationships in the modern era. The short film is an absurd and realistic reflection of a middle-class family at a crossroads. They find themselves facing a situation that makes them realize that there isn’t only one way to be a family.

Family dinners are a source of confrontations with colorful exchanges that allow us to reveal the complexity of the family members, to talk about what brings them together and what divides them.

In Babatoura, quite ordinary characters have to face a situation that is both personal and conflictual, which takes on unexpected dimensions. The humor allows us to explore with tenderness the generational shock and ends with reconciliation and the beginning of a transformation.
