Director's Statement:

FIRST DISCO is a coming of age comedy set in Ireland in 1983 that tells the story of Kelly Harrison who is beset by self consiousness when she gets new train tracks. Every adult and teenager can remember a time when they felt self conscious, whether it was feeling awkward around a first crush, lacking self confidence in general or battling something like acne. People will be able to relate to what Kelly is going through and how she digs inside to overcome the paralysis that she feels. The film has a cast of colourful, quirky supporting characters that inject comedy into the story and throw plenty of conflict in Kelly’s way. With the help of her best friend, Kelly discovers what is really important to her.

This story is about the power and endurance of friendship.

The Writer/Director Helen O’Reilly studied Film at the School of Visual Arts in NYC where she directed three short films. She then spent a year working as Jim Sheridan’s PA during THE SECRET SCRIPTURE production and has attended Directing workshops at the London Film Academy.
